Tuesday, September 17 2024, 3 - 4pm CSP Conference Room 322, Physics Building Special Seminar TOPOLOGY AND PROBABILITY Sage Bobrow-Goss1 and Yohannes Abate2 Department of Mathematics1, Department of Physics and Astronomy2 The University of Georgia In this talk we introduce a fascinating connection between probability and topology. We will begin by motivating the problem, illustrating how topological concepts relate to common probabilistic phenomena in condensed matter physics. We will then present a concrete example that links the stochastic dynamics of a Brownian particle moving toward a target with the topology of the medium. We will conclude by discussing future direction and potential applications. Sage-Abate.pdf (134.46 KB)
